Friends of Whatipu

Friends of Whatipu (FOW) is a group of about 75 people who have knowledge of and links with the Whatipu area and have resolved to act as guardians of the area, helping to preserve its special character, and where possible assist the Auckland Council.

Whatipu wetlands, beach and dunes is a 'scientific reserve". The landscape is one of the most outstanding natural areas of the Auckland region.

Sustainable Coastlines Charitable Trust

Sustainable Coastlines is a young, multi-award winning New Zealand charity run by a small team of hard-working staff and a network of passionate volunteers and interns. We love our coasts and we work with our sleeves rolled up to keep them beautiful. We coordinate and support large-scale coastal clean-up events, educational programs, public awareness campaigns and riparian planting projects. We also help groups run their own events. Through these efforts we motivate volunteers and communities around Aotearoa and the Pacific to look after the coastlines we all love.

Huia Weed Warriors

Huia Weed Warriors has been going for 10 years. We have focussed most of our attention to date on a coastal area bordered on one side by the road and the other by the sea. It used to be a bit of a dumping ground. We have worked hard on removing weeds and planting with eco sourced plants. Our group is small but dedicated. We would love younger families to join us. We are looking at a new focus for our efforts for 2015.

Tomahawk Smaills Beachcare Trust

Our Beachcare group is focused on the catchments, dunes and beautiful beaches at the beginning of Otago Peninsula in Dunedin. We operate a nursery at Smaills Beach and produce 4000 plants each year to re-generate the dune systems. We have regular meetings and regular nursery workdays, and about 4 planting morning each year. All Welcome!
