Greening Taupo

Improve the Taupō environment for the people and native wildlife.

Activities: Planting and weed control

Parties involved: 24 supporters including Taupō District Council, Contact Energy, Wairakei Resort Taupō, Waikato Regional Council, Taupō Native Plant Nursery, Forest & Bird, Bike Taupō and Huka Honey Hive

 

Whaingaroa HarbourCare

Restoration of the forest, lakes,  wetlands, esturaries, rivers and streams  and operate a native plant nursery, mentor other care groups

Activities: Planting and nursery operation

Parties involved: Harbour Care workers and volunteers

 

Lower Waitaki River Management Society

The LWRMS is a community group established in 2006 to enact the Waitaki River Management Strategy. Our goal is “To protect and enhance, in a sustainable way, the Lower Waitaki River System”. This duty of kaitiakitanga includes protection and enhancement of the habitat of the southernmost sub-population of the critically threatened Canterbury mudfish (Neochanna burrowsius), which occurs in riparian seepages on the southern bank of the Waitaki River.

Project Kiwi Trust - Project Kiwi Kuaotunu

The primary objective of Project Kiwi Trust (PKT) is to enhance and protect the kiwi population and continue to restore the ecosystem on the Kuaotunu Peninsula or in such other areas in New Zealand, as the trustees may think fit.

Activities: Kiwi monitoring, operation nest egg, pest and predator management, advocacy, education

Parties involved: Landowners, local business people, conservationists, corporate sponsors.
