Friends of Tuhaitara Coastal Park support the Te Kohaka o Tuhaitara Trust in their 200 plan to restore the park to indigenous coastal forest. The 10.5km coastal park located between the mouth of the Waimakariri and Ashley Rakahuri Estuary was established as an outcome of the settlement between Te Runanga o Ngai Tahu and the Crown. It was then gifted to the people of New Zealand. Tutaepatu Lagoon is located within the park and supports a complete coastal freshwater system through the length of the park. Natural populations of rare and endangered species including the Canterbury mudfish, Bittern and soft tree fern are located within the park. The group supports planting, trapping and visitor projects.
