Project Twin Streams is a large-scale environmental restoration project. it is working to improve water quality in Waitakere streams by revegetating 56 kms of streambanks with native trees and shrubs, and purchasing properties within the flood plain for removal. This stabilises the banks from erosion, creates a cool, shaded environment for ecology to thrive and filters toxins entering the streams.

Through its unique approach, Project Twin Streams engages local residents in the project through partnering with local community organisations to deliver the planting program.

Community Waitakere Charitable Trust has coordinated community-led restoration of Henderson Creek since 2005.
Our work covers the Lower Opanuku and Oratia streams where they pass under Great North Road in Henderson. It continues through Delta Point in Cranwell Park, turning into Henderson Creek and finishes where the creek flows out under the northwestern motorway bridge in Te Atatu.

The tidal nature of Henderson Creek provides a wonderful educational opportunity for our groups as the nature of the stream is constantly changing with the mixing of salt water from the harbour with fresh water from the Opanuku and Oratia Streams.
