Friends of Central Park history

Early in the life of the group we removed mountains of wandering willie which was preventing growth of any other seedlings. Along with the council we are still clearing more areas to enable further planting and natural regeneration.

The Plimmer Trust has built new tracks and bridges which have opened up new areas of the park for walking. Working with WCC, we have trimmed and removed some trees and scrubby undergrowth to create a more open feel and make various walking routes safer and more attractive.

We have learnt the value of the volunteer helpers – little can be achieved without interested and committed people – a future goal is to ‘grow the group’. We have also learnt that weeds keep coming back!!
