History of Friends of Kauri Glen Reserve
Kauri Glen Reserve has existed for at least 400 years, when it was part of an extensive kauri forest on the North Shore of Auckland. Along with other kauri forests in the area, it was probably left as a reserve when the North Shore was developed for housing, probably owing to its steep nature. There are photographs of this area, dated about 1910, which can be accessed through the National Library of New Zealand website. They show gullies, ferns and waterfalls.
