History of Chelsea Estate Regional Park Assn.
The Chelsea Heritage Estate Regional Parks Association (CHERPA) was established in 1997 by Dinah and Tony Holman. In 2007, CHERPA and the Chelsea Park Trust helped purchase 36.7 of the 54 hectare Chelsea Estate, and transferred to council ownership. CHERPA recently reformed and are working with Auckland Council, Kaipatiki Local Board, the Kaipatiki Restoration Network and other groups to improve on the maintenance of the park, restore the lakes and protect the native bush from pest plants and pollution from the urban environment.
