Needles Eye and Willow Bay

Needles Eye is a small reserve on Birkenhead Point, Auckland. The small bay north-west of the point was known to locals from the early 20th century as Willow Bay. Needles Eye is an old pah site recorded as an archaeological site in the Auckland Unitary Plan. Needles Eye and Willow Bay are on the west side of Little Shoal Bay and adjacent to the old site of Clement Wragge's Waiata Tropical Gardens and Residence with various species of palm trees. The site is subject to wind erosion. A wide range of weed species are distributed over the reserve and adjacent land.

Kennedy Bay Beachcare

Aim: Restoration of natural dune ecosystem adjacent to beach accessways. Involve and inform local landowners.

Activities: Earthworks, weed control,   planting and access management

Parties involved: Local landowners and Waikato Regional Council Beachcare

Hotwater Beachcare

Aim: Restoration of sand dunes, education of dune ethic, back dune planting and improve biodiversity

Activities: Planting

Parties involved: Local residents and community, Waikato Regional Council and Thames Coromandel District Council

Whitianga Beachcare

Presently focused on restoring naturally functionning dune in beach areas where this is absent

Aim: Restore and protect natural dune ecosystem and involve and inform community and adjacent landowners

Activities: Earthworks, weed control,  education, planting and access management

Parties involved: Local residents, ratepayers, beach users and  Waikato Regional Council
