New group. Aims: to encourage the care and inmprovement in our neighbourhood of this half hectare reserve. Encourage our children to get out into nature, learn about it and care for the area. Kahikatea, northern rata, rewarewa, kohekohe, puriri, banded kokopu, morepork/ruru, fantail, kereru, tui, silver eyes, grey warbler, kingfisher. Current activities: bush walks, collect rubbish, weed control, rat control. Specialist skills: weed control experience, Growsafe qualifications, plant identification skills.
New group seeking to establish pest free area at the Whakamarama Road end currently known as "The Blade"
Friends of Puketoki are a group of local volunteers with the vision of maintaining a pest free environment in this virgin lowland Podocarp reserve under the auspices of the WBOP District Council and with assistance of the BOP Regional Council and Wild About NZ. It is the home of the endangered Toutouwai, the N I Robin, and is much used by the public with 20 and 50 minute well maintained tracks.
