Lower Waitaki River Management Society

The LWRMS is a community group established in 2006 to enact the Waitaki River Management Strategy. Our goal is “To protect and enhance, in a sustainable way, the Lower Waitaki River System”. This duty of kaitiakitanga includes protection and enhancement of the habitat of the southernmost sub-population of the critically threatened Canterbury mudfish (Neochanna burrowsius), which occurs in riparian seepages on the southern bank of the Waitaki River.
