These images are of some of the first planting around the year 2000. Note the old wind blown Tawa. These where standing in the paddock with no supporting bush under them, possums harvesting any berries…. Some trees still show the scares of gorse fires that swept the valley. It was these fires that prompted action to rescue these remnants of bush.
These images are testament to the work of our foundation members of Friends of Maara roa who trekked way up the back of the valley to commence planting.
