Mt Chocolate is located in Clifton, Invercargill, New Zealand. It is the home of Tracy and Mike Peters.
A family home and the Redworks art studio is being built on the site to be surrounded by native bush and wetland.
Mt Chocolate is also the name of a nature conservation project on 1 Ha (2.5 Acres) of former farmland. This is being planted as a Miro swamp forest and will eventually be protected in perpetuity. A long-term scientific study is being conducted as a feedback loop on management. Propagation, planting and maintenance trials are being carried out to radically increase ecosystem complexity, richness and structural emergence while reducing cost and effort. A native plant nursery has been established to propagate around 1000 plants per year for planting each winter on site. The nearby Seaward Bush Scenic Reserve is being used as a template for what to expect.
Mt Chocolate is also an excuse to get very creative with drawing, sculpting, model making, photography, jewellery, painting and natural history film. Nature is a book to be read - not a book to be written.
