Poutiri Ao ō Tāne
Poutiri Ao ō Tāne, is an ongoing large-scale ecological restoration project covering 8,800 ha in the Maungaharuru Range of northern Hawke's Bay.
Poutiri Ao ō Tāne was launched in 2011 to support the return of native species to the project area. The project's long-term vision is to restore the 'Mountain to Sea' ecosystems of this region as well as the critical services they provide, so that the maunga (mountain) will once more roar with the sound of wings.
Poutiri Ao ō Tāne's outcomes and partners were invaluable in shaping Cape to City, and many of these partners are now involved with our project.
Collectively, Poutiri Ao ō Tāne and Cape to City form Hawke's Bay's first stepping stones towards a larger vision of a predator-free New Zealand.
Led by DOC, the key partner organisations involved in the Poutiri project are: the Aotearoa Foundation, Hawke’s Bay Regional Council, Landcare Research, ECOED, Landcorp, Maungaharuru Tangitu Inc, Ngati Pahauwera, Ngati Hineuru, Tutira Maungaharuru Vision Group, Cape Sanctuary, and the local conservation community.
