Environment Network Manawatu
Environment Network Manawatu Inc. (ENM) is a coordinating and networking organisation that encourages and fosters Manawatu-based environmental initiatives. ENM was set up to improve communication, coordination, and cooperation between local environmental community groups and has now grown to a network of 35 diverse groups, active in areas ranging from biodiversity to sustainable living and amenity.
ENM member groups that are involved in “hands on” restoration projects or conservation work are Forest & Bird Manawatu, A Rocha Manawatu, Friends of Waitoetoe Park, Green Corridors, the C.T. Keeble Memorial Forest Trust, Te Ao Turoa Environment Centre, the Kiwi Conservation Club and the Manawatu Estuary Trust, with the Pit Park people also heavily involved in community based planting of native trees as part of the rehabilitation of an old clay and gravel pit to create an urban park. We work cooperatively with the local Manawatu Rangitikei DOC office which is an affiliate member of ENM. ENM also promotes other local restoration projects including native tree plantings at Sixtus Lodge Outdoor Education Centre, the Te One Bush Restoration Project, the Tawhirihoe Habitat Restoration Group and the Kahuterawa Bush Remnant Restoration Group.
ENM has a website, a Facebook Page and monthly email newsletter, and these are all great ways of finding out about local conservation activities. We act as a first point of call for people wanting to find out about a wide range of local environmental initiatives, so contact us if you have a query or check out our website www.enm.org.nz to find out about our current member groups.
